Physical Therapy (or physiotherapy), often abbreviated PT, is a health care profession primarily concerned with the remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention carried out by Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants- Wikipedia
Research from the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) finds that Older adults value their independence and situations which include but are not limited to falls, hospital stays, diabetes complications, obesity, CHF complications, Cardiac abnormalities to include a heart attack, CVA (stroke) occurrence, Uncontrolled Blood pressure, Parkinsons, Osteo and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Alzheimers/Dementia are the main reasons that older adults may experience significant disability, reduced physical function and loss of independence. More than 50% of people age 65 or older tend to experience a fall. These falls result in moderate to severe injuries such as lacerations, hip fractures, or head traumas. These injuries can make it hard to get around independently and increase risk of early death. The strongest evidence and factors in the prevention of deterioration and increase in life span includes: Strengthening with Home Exercise Program instruction, Activities of daily living training (i.e. bathing, grooming, dressing, washing clothes and dishes independently), pain management via modalities or massage/joint mobilizations, balance and gait and coordination acts. These acts are provided by licensed Physical and Occupational Therapists.
You will always receive a phone call 30 minutes to an hour before a therapist arrives. You can expect to feel comfortable and relaxed because you are in the privacy of your home. To determine the cause of your problem, a licensed Physical or Occupational Therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment which will include information provided by you and your families/caregivers and most important research based, objective tests and measures that will determine the possible cause of the problem. Most tests and measures are painless. The tests may take an hour or longer depending on the severity of the situation. This information will be used to develop your specific plan of care and treatments to be implemented by your therapist.
Within 24 hours., a written request will be sent to your doctor or nurse practitioner. The request will include the results of your testing along with specific orders that must be signed by your doctor or nurse practitioner in order for a therapist to begin treatment. Please note: Any properly licensed Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist can perform an initial evaluation and assessment without a doctor or nurse practitioner’s permission at the insured person’s request.
PLEASE NOTE: Unless an order is signed by a doctor or nurse practitioner, no treatments shall be provided to patient by a therapist. Simply put, we must have permission to treat you and appreciate your assistance with communications with your doctor or nurse practitioner which may require you visit to see your doctor or nurse practitioner before or after the therapist assessment so that orders can be signed.
Each “one-on-one” treatment session will last approximately 1 hour. Depending on how motivated you are and the severity of your condition, most treatment plans are at least 2 times per week for a period of 4 to 8 weeks.
Physical and Occupational Therapy are non-invasive treatment options that have been effective for millions of people across the world. Your In-Home Physical Therapist will implement an evidence-based treatment approach to your problems by always assessing vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugars) based on your medical history and then offering a treatment that works to solve your specific problem.
